I have decided that every Thursday I am going to do a blog post on a film I really love...and not major pop culture flicks. I am going to try and pick more obscure ones that I feel everyone should watch. I have gotten so many lovely comments on the weekly Tuesday Tunes post, so I thought I could do the same for you all with movies! Ladies and gents its time for......drum roll please....CINAMATIC FANTASTIC! For my first one I have chosen The Royal Tenebaums. I still can't believe how many people have never seen this movie! Yes yes I am sure some of you will argue that it is a major motion picture, and it is. But it isn't mass produced bubblegum crap. It is moving art, so tragically sad that it is beautiful. Its also downright quirky and wonderful!
I'll be honest. The first time I watched it I turned it off. It was too sad, some of the issues cut to close to home for me. But when I was in a happier place I watched it again, and again, and again, and again. Everything about this flick is artistic, tragic and honest.

Simply put its a story about a family, a real one. A family that is messed up and imperfect and really kind of whacked....but they love each other.
Picture
Something about this movie speaks to me on a very deep level. The three siblings Chas, Margot and Richie are all completely messed up in their own ways. They are each a little bit self absorbed, lost in their own worlds and they miss a lot of what is happening around them. As do their parents.
Picture
I think that is part of what I love this movie so much. Each character has their own way of expressing a narcissistic almost "emo" side that I think everyone can relate to. There is a bit of that in us all. We all have our skeletons hiding in the closest don't we? And sometimes it feels good to brood over them. Cathartic.

But there comes a time when we have to snap out of it, wake up and see the world around us. And I won't lie and paint fluffy clouds...it can be messed up and tragic and sad but it can also be very beautiful. It is fragile and there is an intense beauty to fragility. And when you can share that beauty with your family, the world is a wonderful place.

Fall is a wonderful time to curl up with someone you love, two legged or four ;) and watch a good movie. Why not give this one a whirl and tell me what you thought? The soundtrack by the way is great!! I <3 Nico!

Sorry kittens, no fill in the blank fun this week. My head has been a lil spinny these past few days and I only have time for a quick hello! So here is some Friday Fashion Fun....at least I still brought my alliteration game face! Peace and pickles

So I am know officially kicking my self in the ass. Getting my butt in gear. Going the distance. Cue Rockey theme song! I have been trying to set up an Etsy shop for so long, and keep getting stalled. If you haven't tried to do one yourself you may not realize how much work it is. Calculating shipping costs, taking good photos, writing a bio and artist statement, hell just selling yourself and your work in general. Right now, I am suffering from stage fright.

Am I good enough? Am I unique enough? Have I learned enough? Am I ready!?!?!?! I think I am so scared of failure that I am just avoiding trying. Well, cue the ass kicking

I CAN do this! I WILL do this! And be GREAT at it! It makes me happy and at the end of the day, that is all that really matters. Now I just have to figure out what I want to focus on because I have a tendency to just try and do everything all at once. And then I burn out. And then fall apart. And then Im done. Sooooooooo I am thinking photography prints or postcards, vintage button rings, unique embroidery hoop pieces, and my eco-felt plushies. Thoughts? Advice?

I am currently head over heals in love with Mumford and Sons, this song in particular. It starts of a little slow, but wait for it. Trust me it's worth it!
I also LOVE this new version of Florence and the Machines video for Dog Days. Its like a musical, moving, textile fashion show!
I love Florence's original style. It totally inspires me right now!

Thanks for some fun blanks once again Lauren!

1.   When I get a day to myself I like to: Wake up late, sip a cup of coffee in ned with my kitties, go out in the garden for a bit and then make a BIG ol' mess of kraftyness all over the place!

2.  High school was: really not that bad now that I look back on it. Home was not a safe place for me growing up so highschool was were I could relax and be myself...and it was the only time I was ever allowed to see my friends! Strict mom.

3.  A little dream I have is: is to take some art/textile design classes to fuel my kraft inspiration

4.  A big dream I have is: to own a big chunk of land where I can have chickens and horses and grow lots and lots of veggies!

5.  If I could drive any car my pick would be: a tack-o-ramma Voltswagon Van

6.  A time that I felt really and truly beautiful was: my wedding day, I felt like a fairytale princess

7.  Tomorrow I will: do everything I said in number one because my hubz is out playing golf!

And now, some photo updates! Here are some of my favorite pictures from the summer. Click on them to view full size and read the stories....
